Kell Brook eager to put on a show in IBF title eliminator
Published:After various injuries denied him of a world title fight, there is no doubt that Kell Brook will be keen to put an impressive performance on against Vyaslev Senchenko and set up another shot at a belt.
The Sheffield man has only had one fight this year – an impressive eighth round stoppage over Carson Jones who had caused him so many problems 12 months earlier – and was scheduled to take on IBF champion Devon Alexander but a recurring ankle problem meant the Sheffield man had to pull out.
A win for Brook against Senchenko, priced at 1/7, would earn The Special One another chance to fight for a world title, but must not underestimate the experienced Ukranian.
Senchenko will be best known by British fans as the man who ended Ricky Hatton’s short-lived comeback and while The Hitman was well past his prime, The Ukranian Master is a top-quality fighter.
The 36-year-old will look to dictate the fight with his rangy jab and use his reach advantage to force Brook’s hand. Brook will probably have to take shots to land them and a knockout for Senchenko is priced at 9/1. However, with 23 stoppages in 34 fights, the Ukranian does not have particularly heavy hands.
Brook will look to negate his opponent’s straight shots with his excellent speed and the overhand-right over the top of the jab could be the key to unlocking Senchenko’s defence.
The Sheffield man has stopped his last two opponents and it is 8/13 he wins inside the distance again. With Senchenko prone to cuts – his bout against Paulie Malignaggi was stopped due to a gash under his eye – and Brook known for his powerful, almost swiping, shots, the ref could get involved in the later rounds. Brook to win in rounds 7-9 looks a good a good bet at 7/2.
