Irresistible Arsenal to scythe down over adventurous Dortmund

Published:

Many thought Italian side Napoli were prime bubble-bursting candidates when they faced Arsenal on matchday two of the Champions League, but they were duly embarrassed, and now a more adventurous Borussia Dortmund side face the same treatment.

Those who were thinking that a decent start by Arsenal would soon fall flat have been made to look a little silly by a fluent Gunners side overflowing with twinkle-toed, goal-scoring maestros (enough about Nicklas Bendtner).

Jack Wilshere’s recent contender for goal of the season against Norwich in the Premier League perfectly encapsulated the slick, confident and almost nonchalant football that this Gunners side are capable of at present.

So, with all this in mind and factoring in Dortmund’s loss at Napoli in the opening game, Arsenal can once again prevail at the Emirates at odds of 5/4 with Ladbrokes.

When Napoli rolled into town in their last Champions League outing, unbeaten themselves in seven games, many believed Arsenal may be in store for a reality check.

It transpired to be quite the contrary. With Mesut Ozil pulling the strings, the fluidity and pace of Arsenal’s passing left the Italians frozen in the headlights and chasing shadows.

While Dortmund will be well informed of the Arsenal threat, Jurgen Klopp’s ambitious team only really know one way of playing and that is to attack.

This in turn should make it even easier for the hosts to find those spaces between midfield and attack.

With so many Arsenal players capable of finding the net, it’s difficult to single out one potential goal scorer, though Olivier Giroud has yet to go more than three games without a goal this season and at 6/5 looks a tempting bet to bag anytime.

It’s probably worth noting that Marco Reus and Robert Lewandowski have been responsible for eight of Dortmund’s last nine goals in all competitions, so a punt on either man at 5/2 or 7/4 respectively to score anytime, may also prove fruitful.
