Gunners goalfest to continue with visit of free-scoring Dortmund
Arsenal fans have already been witness to 18 goals in just six games at the Emirates Stadium this season, and with the visit of Germany’s top scorers due this week, this goal glut shows no sign of ending with over 3.5 goals available at 6/4.
Arsenal’s 4-1 victory over Norwich on Saturday was their fifth home win in a row, representing quite the turnaround for Arsene Wenger’s men following their shock 3-1 humbling by Aston Villa on the opening day of the season.
The Gunners now top the Premier League by two points, with only Manchester City, on 20 goals, having troubled the net more times than Arsenal’s 18.
Trumping both, and trailing only Barcelona for most goals in Europe’s top five leagues, are Tuesday night’s Champions League opponents Borussia Dortmund.
Jurgen Klopp’s men have begun this campaign in a similar free-flowing style that won them the hearts and minds of many neutrals last season, when success in the league and Europe was only denied them by their all-conquering Bayern Munich rivals.
Like Arsenal, their 23 league goals this season have been shared throughout the side, with no fewer than seven players having already found the back of the net, with strikers Robert Lewandoski and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang unsurprisingly leading the charge on 11 league goals between them.
Wenger’s men boast eight different league goalscorers (and 11 in all competitions), with Olivier Giroud’s four league goals being boosted by the prolific form of his supporting cast, with new boy Mesut Ozil – not to mention the newfound goalscoring exploits of the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere – meaning that Arsenal’s goals from midfield are proving an effective new dynamic in their bid to win a first trophy since 2005.
It all means there’s money to be made in backing goals when the two sides meet on Tuesday. Over 2.5 goals is priced at 8/13, while those fancying a real goal glut can get 6/4 for over 3.5 goals, and backing 2-3 goals for Arsenal alone is 13/10.
Arsenal’s both previous home Champions League games with Dortmund have ended in wins, with two goals from Robin Van Persie deciding the last duel in a 2-1 victory in 2011. The Dutchman is of course no longer at the Emirates to repeat the feat, but the same scoreline can be backed at 11/4.
Arsenal are yet to go a game without scoring, while Dortmund have notched a blank only once this season, in a 1-0 defeat to Monchengladbach, so backing both teams to score at 8/15 looks another top punt.
