Gareth Bale 8/1 to head to Man United by start of 2014/15
Published:Despite costing Real Madrid a jaw-jangling world-record transfer fee of £86m, a performance deemed as ‘irrelevant’ by one Spanish paper in their biggest league fixture versus Barcelona, has prompted Ladbrokes to speculate on Gareth Bale’s future already.
It may be a little hasty, but after such a torrid start to his fledgling Real career, Ladbrokes have decided to release a series of transfer specials speculating on possible moves for Bale away from the Bernabeu.
According to the bookmakers, Bale is deemed an 8/1 shot to sign for Manchester United before the start of next season after being linked with a move to Old Trafford in the summer.
It’s 16/1 that Bale snubs David Moyes to sign for Manchester City, while PSG are 33/1 to secure his services.
Meanwhile, Bale can be backed at 4/1 to leave for any team in the summer and it’s 20/1 he is sold in January.
Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “We didn’t envisage offering a set of transfer prices for Bale as soon as this. While a January move looks unlikely, we can’t rule out a switch to Manchester in the summer.”
If Bale was to leave Real after just a single season in the Spanish capital, he wouldn’t be the first British export to have struggled to make their mark for Los Merengues.
Michael Owen only managed a season at the Spanish behemoths and although Jonathan Woodgate was technically on Real’s books for three seasons, the former England defender ended up making just 14 first-team appearances.
However, it is early days for Bale, who has also been kept out of the side through injury and was arguably played out of position on his return to the starting line-up in El Clasico.
