Galatasaray great value to qualify from Champions League group

Published:

Galatasaray may have been thumped by Real Madrid on matchday one of the Champions League, but by grabbing a late equaliser in Turin, the Turkish side might just have stolen a march on Juventus.

The complexion of Group B after matchday two is one of the more intriguing in the competition.

Real Madrid are already home and hosed barring a minor miracle, as the Spaniards have won two from two, while all three of their counterparts remain winless – something reflected in Madrid’s 1/14 price to win Group B.

However, over their shoulders, the identity of the team which will eventually accompany them to the knockout stages is as clear as mud.

Nevertheless, Juventus on two points, have been allotted a heavily odds-on 1/4 tag to qualify, whereas fellow quarter-finalists of last season Galatasaray are deemed 3/1 shots, just one point behind.

Meanwhile, it’s only fair to mention Copenhagen at 16/1, but realistically a Europa League slot is probably their best hope even after holding Juventus to a draw.

It’s that draw which forms part of the case for backing Galatasaray at attractive odds over Juventus.

Galatasaray now have the chance to clock up six points over their double-header with group outsiders Copenhagen, while Juventus – just a point ahead – could plausibly come away empty-handed such is Real’s form in the competition.

Still, even if the Italian giants take some points off Madrid, it could yet come down to their match-up with Galatasaray in their final group game in Istanbul.

Having already secured a point in Turin, thanks to that late Umut Bulut equaliser, the Turkish champions have effectively put money in the bank, if they can see the job through in a cauldron-like atmosphere on matchday six.

At 3/1, it’s certainly worth a go on Galatasaray.
