European acca: Atletico to concede but better Betis

Published:

Our European fourfold envisages happy home faithfuls in France, Spain and Germany, while the travelling Milanistas should leave Parma in high spirits.

These four selections pay out at 27.3/1.

Parma v AC Milan – Milan @ 5/4

While winless on the road in four so far, Milan have a good opportunity to get off the mark against a club to which they have suffered just one defeat in 18 meetings. They have won two of the last three encounters at the Stadio Ennio Tardini.

Milan held Barcelona to a 1-1 draw in the Champions League in midweek, and will be buoyed by their host’s recent defensive record. Roberto Donadoni’s side have kept just two clean sheets in eight league matches, allowing nine in their last four, including three in a 3-2 to defeat to Hellas Verona last time out.

Monaco v Lyon – Monaco and over 2.5 goals @ 23/20

Lyon are in dire straits in Ligue 1, losing two and drawing two of their last four matches, with humbling defeats coming at Ajaccio and Montpellier – the latter a 5-1 shellacking.

Big-spending Monaco have stalled somewhat of late, but remain undefeated through 10 games, and have won four and drawn one at home.

However, Claudio Ranieri’s side’s failure to keep a clean sheet in four of their last five suggests that Lyon – who have struck in four of their last five – may find some joy, albeit fleeting, at the Stade Louis II.

Atletico Madrid v Real Betis – Both teams to score and Atletico to win @ 2/1

Atletico Madrid responded in style to dropping their first league game of the season in midweek, handing Austria Vienna a 3-0 defeat on home soil in the Champions League.

Diego Simeone’s side have won four of four at the Vicente Calderon, while Real Betis – currently languishing in 16th place – are winless away from home and have lost their last two in the Primera Liga. In addition, Betis won’t benefit from any potential European hangover in their hosts after their involvement in the Europa League on Thursday.

However, Madrid have conceded in each of their last three at home, while the Verdiblancos have registered in each of their last six in all competitions, and will expect to breach the home defence.

Monchengladbach v Frankfurt – Monchengladbach @ 19/20

Borussia Monchengladbach have looked irresistible at Borussia-Park so far this season, winning all four matches whilst scoring 13 times and conceding just twice. They currently sit in seventh place, and beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in their last outing here.

While Eintracht Frankfurt are a respectable travelling outfit, losing just one of five on the road, their two wins have come against sides in the lower half of the Bundesliga; they were held to a 1-1 draw at relegation-threatened Freiburg on their last away fixture, and look likely to struggle against opposition of Monchengladbach’s class. The home side look good value for three points.
