Europa League: Swans to soar over free-falling Russians

Published:

Swansea have got off to a flier in the Europa League, and will feel that their impending clash with Kuban Krasnodar could not have come at a better time.

Michael Laudrup’s charges dismantled Sunderland 4-0 at the weekend in a characteristically vibrant display, while the visitors have just one win in their last nine in all competitions.

The 1/2 on a home win looks a generous price, with an away win a largely unforeseeable 6/1 shot. The draw is 3/1.

The Russian side have failed to score in either of their two defeats in Group A – both of which saw them go down by a 2-0 scoreline (a 6/1 shot here) – form which saw the club relieve Dorinel Munteanu of his managerial duties last week; the new regime began in inauspicious fashion with a 3-1 defeat to Dynamo Moscow.

The Cossacks’ failure to keep a clean sheet in their last eight will no doubt have the Swans channelling their inner vulture; they have seen goals come from a variety of sources in Europe this term, with Wilfried Bony leading the charge with four strikes. The Ivorian is a 4/1 favourite to net first, and a tempting 11/8 proposition to register anytime.

Wayne Routledge has been another key component in the Swans’ European success with three strikes – all of which have come at the Liberty. The 5/1 on the diminutive winger netting with a home victory looks like stunning value.

Swansea have scored 10 times in their three home matches in this competition so far, making 13/10 on a home triumph with over 2.5 goals hard to argue against.

Viktor Goncharenko’s side have now failed to score in four of their last five efforts on the road, giving the 13/10 on the Welsh side to win with a clean sheet particular appeal.
