Dufner and Johnson primed for early Presidents Cup points

Published:

The line-up for the fourballs has been named for the Presidents Cup, with our four best bets for some early profit below. Backing the fourfold pays out at 17/1.

Jason Day & Graham Delaet to beat Hunter Mahan & Brandt Snedeker @ 6/4

The fact that Muirfield Village is Day’s home course must be a big advantage, while his pairing with Delaet appears one of the strongest on the International team.

This price just looks on the high side against two players with only two top-10 finishes between them since July.

Adam Scott & Hideki Matsuyama to beat Bill Haas & Webb Simpson @ 11/10

Webb Simpson doesn’t have the best track record at Muirfield, missing three cuts at the course, while Matsuyama may be a rookie, but the experience of both world-ranked number two Scott and the Australian’s caddie Steve Williams will be a big help to his game.

Interestingly, this is the only US pair not odds-on to win their respective fourballs and this seems justified.

Phil Mickelson & Keegan Bradley to beat Louis Oosthuizen & Charl Schwartzel @ 10/11

This fourball are all major winners, with both pairings fairly obvious. Mickelson and Bradley won all three of their matches together at the last Ryder Cup, while Schwartzel and Oosthuizen are not only both South African, but have been long-time friends.

Oosthuizen has had a troubled year with injury though and his lack of regular play could ultimately decide this against two Americans known to enjoy hot streaks of birdies.

Jason Dufner & Zach Johnson to beat Branden Grace & Richard Sterne @ 5/6

Were it not for the brilliance Ian Poulter, Dufner and Johnson would have also gone 3-0 at the last Ryder Cup and the only real danger to their chances appear to be if Johnson hasn’t fully recovered from a bout of flu.

South African duo Grace and Sterne are both making their Presidents Cup debuts and have only played once between them at Muirfield previously.

This looks the banker of the day.
