Draw and jockey booking gives Chiberta King Cesarewitch claims

Limitless stamina, a leading apprentice that is taking off valuable weight in the saddle and now the perfect draw – the positives are beginning to stack up for Chiberta King in his quest to triumph in the Cesarewitch at Newmarket.

Many may have scrubbed Chiberta King off of their initial Cesarewitch shortlists, bearing in mind he is top weight for the 2m2f contest and conceding at least 20lbs to the majority of the field because of his superior official rating.

However, confidence must be gleaned from Aaim To Prosper winning this race off top weight 12 months ago and the fact that Chiberta King is ridden by leading amateur jockey Oisin Murphy.

Murphy, who sits third in Apprentice Jockeys Championship in 2013, will claim his 5lb allowance, which effectively means that Chiberta King will run from a mark of 97 in the Cesarewitch, which represents his lowest Flat rating since 2011.

It should not be forgotten that Chiberta King has already landed the Queen Alexandra Stakes this season off a mark of 102, so his racing rating at Newmarket is certainly not beyond him.

But the main reason that Chiberta King appeals as an each-way option in the Cesarewitch betting at 20/1 is because he will break from the plum draw in stall one.

Given the race is contested over such a marathon distance, it is somewhat of a surprise that there is such a draw bias towards those in the lower-number stalls.

Yet, seven of the last 10 winners have been drawn no higher than 12 and those in the lowest five stalls have supplied five of the last 11 victors.

Furthermore, in the last decade, 10 horses to have finished in the first three have come from stalls 1-5.
