Bradford’s Bermudan looks a good bet to top League One charts

Published:

There are plenty of League One hotshots compiling impressive goal tallies early in the season, but in Nahki Wells, Bradford may just have the man who can trump the competition and help them achieve back-to-back promotions.

After a painful six-year exodus from the third tier of English football, Bradford are making life in League One look pretty easy.

They currently lie fourth in table, having lost just once, back in mid-August, while four wins from their last five can be deemed as promotion form – an eventuality, which can be backed at 9/2 with Ladbrokes.

A feature of their excellent start has been the free-scoring antics of Bermundan striker Wells, who scored in each of the Bantams opening four League One encounters and now sits on eight for the campaign so far from 10 games.

Subsequently, it’s no surprise to see Wells among the frontrunners to top the league’s scoring charts come May at 6/1.

Wells has followed seamlessly on from a terrific season in League Two last season, where he bagged 18 league goals and 26 in total, as Bradford famously made it all the way to Wembley in the Capital One Cup.

There are currently only two other players who have scored more times thus far in League One, in the form of Leyton Orient midfielder David Mooney and Coventry youngster Callum Wilson – both on nine.

However, having never surpassed double figures in a league season it’s difficult to see 8/1 shot Mooney maintaining the pace, while Wilson, also at 8/1 is an unknown quantity.

Wolves’ Leigh Griffiths is the favourite at 9/2 and considering he’s now been capped by Scotland and scored regularly in the SPL last season, it’s not difficult to see why.

Meanwhile, Chelsea youngster Patrick Bamford, on loan at the MK Dons, has been mightily impressive with his eight goals, though 11/1 is a big gamble considering his lack of experience.
