Bet on Betis, AZ and Genk for a six o’clock salvo treble
Published:After a hectic week of unpredictable Monday night football and Champions League action on Tuesday and Wednesday, the Europa League offers up some bankable trebles that could set you up nicely for the weekend ahead.
This week we’ve plumped for the non-British threesome of Real Betis, Genk and AZ Alkmaar, with each of the three teams well placed for success in their respective six o’clock kick-offs.
The Spaniards have made a solid start to the season in La Liga, with wins against Valencia and Villarreal showcasing their attacking abilities.
Betis also made a positive start to life in the Europa League with a credible 0-0 draw against group favourites Lyon and they will fancy their chances against a Rijeka team who have already pulled off a massive shock by beating Stuttgart in the qualification playoff.
That said, the Croatians looked out of their depth in the opening round of fixtures, losing heavily to Vitória Guimarães and even with home advantage, they are heavy outsiders.
PAOK may have claimed a victory over Shakhter Karagandy in the group opener but it’s important to remember that the Greek side qualified for the Europa League as lucky losers after slipping to defeat to Maccabi Tel Aviv in the two-legged qualifier.
AZ, meanwhile, began with victory away in Israel, dispatching Maccabi Haifa to claim a valuable three points and maintain some of the momentum that has seen them lose just one of their last six competitive fixtures.
With PAOK winning just one of their last five games on the road, things are looking pretty good for the Dutch club.
This one is all about current form, with Genk currently enjoying a run of nine games without defeat in all competitions heading into this match.
That run included a credible 1-0 victory away to the heavily-fancied Dynamo Kiev and there’s every reason to think the positive results will continue against Thun.
The Swiss side are without a win in three matches and have won just one of their last five away games in all competitions.
