BBC Breakfast’s Reid the dark horse for Strictly crown

The BBC Breakfast star could be the dark horse of this year’s Strictly Come Dancing after her sharp Tango last weekend led to the judges telling her to “ditch the day job” and take to the dance floor.
Reid, with the help of professional partner Kevin Clifton, has proven herself to be a competent dancer but, more importantly, she is a likeable character who could follow in the footsteps of her former Breakfast star Chris Hollins, who won back in 2009.
Fellow stars Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Natalie Gumede and Abbey Clancy may be attracting slightly better marks from Len, Bruno, Darcey and Craig, but the judges are not the ones who matter in this competition.
The voting public are the ones who really count, so back them to take Reid all the way to the Glitterball trophy at 8/1 with Ladbrokes.
It’s not such good news for Julian Macdonald.
Judge Len Goodman summed it up perfectly when he said the fashion designer’s Tango “was more of a Wimpy than a Big Mac”.
Macdonald might be a fan of wearing the designs the show’s costume department serve up but the sequins and sparkles cannot hide his flat feet!
It is hard to look past the 1/2 you can get on the Welshman being eliminated from the show in week three.
Elsewhere, Ladbrokes have been forced to cut Ellis-Bextor’s odds from 6/1 to 2/1 following her superb Charleston.
Despite a near ‘Murder on the Dancefloor’ when Brendan Cole dropped the pospstar on her head in rehearsal, she bounced back to score 36 out of 40 for her routine.
The 34-year-old is now joint favourite to win the BBC1 show with Coronation Street star Gumede (also 2/1); ahead of Hollyoaks heart-throb Ashley Taylor Dawson (5/1), WAG Clancy (8/1) and our outside pick Reid.
