Back goals in both halves when Arsenal entertain Liverpool

Liverpool’s visit to the home of Premier League leaders Arsenal promises to offer a real barometer of the two clubs’ respective progress this season, while recent history suggests there should be goals to go with it.

If the last three Premier League meetings between these classic foes of English football are anything to go by, then the 4/7 on offer from Ladbrokes that goals are scored either side of the break, looks a corker.

Man of the moment Luis Suarez, fresh from his stunning hat-trick against West Brom, was the player who got the party started in this fixture last season, notching inside five minutes in what ended as a thrilling 2-2 draw – with three more goals arriving in the second half.

Meanwhile, the two preceding league fixtures, including an Arsenal win at Anfield last season, would have landed this bet.

Liverpool’s last four Premier League games home and away would also have made punters who selected this bet happy at their choice.

And further evidence to support the theory arrives courtesy of the fact that three of the Gunners’ four home league games produced goals in either half this season as well.

Another bet to consider here is the potentially lucrative 11/8 on Liverpool repeating their trick of the last two visits to the Emirates and scoring over 1.5 goals both times.

This outcome would have paid out for the Reds in five of their last six Premier League games this season too.

Arsenal have been far from slack in front of goal against Liverpool in the top-flight either, having scored exactly twice in the last three.

Although it’s slightly less profitable at 10/11, the Gunners surpassing the 1.5 goals mark themselves is certainly worth consideration, as is the 4/6 on over 2.5 goals in the match overall.
