Back Earth Amber with Ladbrokes paying top five on Cesarewitch

With 66/1, 50/1 and 25/1 winners in the past five years, the Cesarewitch has been a race for each-way punters in recent times and Ladbrokes’ latest promotion increases the need to look at those at longer odds again.

Ladbrokes will be paying each-way on the first five Cesarewitch finishers at 1/4 of the odds and punters can even take the risk on some of the entries that are not guaranteed a spot in the field as they have also gone non-runner money-back.

The majority of the favourites have strong claims, most notably Domination and Smoky Hill.

Domination is 6/1 to win the Cesarewitch and has been mopping up over hurdles in Ireland in recent months. He will be especially tough to beat if the ground stays on the quicker side.

Meanwhile, Smoky Hill (8/1) is still only officially rated 91, which could be made to look very lenient after finishing fourth in a Group 3 in France last time.

He finished ahead of the likes of Genzy and Aiken that day, who are both rated 100+ and can be expected to improve further for a quicker early pace.

However, there is extra mileage in searching for a longshot given the decision to pay five places and Earth Amber is one worthy of some extra attention at 25/1, with Ladbrokes offering the top industry price.

In the past decade, Nicky Henderson has gained two winners and a second from just nine entries in the Cesarewitch and Earth Amber was an interesting purchase from France over the winter.

The horse was second on his final start in France to Les Beaufs, who has a Group 1 victory on his resume, and then on his first start for Henderson, Earth Amber was second to the 105-rated Testosterone in a Listed Race.

Earth Amber flopped on his latest start, but it may prove wise to forgive him this run.

The fact he is a hold-up horse suits in the Cesarewitch and his rating falls within the bracket of 87 and 98, which has accounted for seven of the last 10 winners and 16 of the 20 horses to fill the frame in the last five years.

A further boost is the booking of Richard Hughes for the ride, who is well on track to being crowned champion jockey this season for the second consecutive year.
