Back Cristiano Ronaldo to silence Sepp Blatter in Sevilla clash

Published:

Sepp Blatter may not see Cristiano Ronaldo as the best player in the world but CR7 could be a much-cherished addition to any betslip if you back the Real Madrid star to open the scoring against Sevilla with odds of 2/1 available.

The FIFA President landed himself in hot water earlier this week after admitting during an address to the Oxford Union he preferred Barcelona star Lionel Messi to the Portuguese forward.

“They don’t have the same attitude and that gives life to football. One has more expenses for the hairdresser than the other but that doesn’t matter,” he told the assembled audience.

“I like both of them, but I prefer Messi.”

The comments have already generated criticism from Real Madrid with (manager) Carlo Ancelotti hitting out at Blatter’s “lack of respect” with regards to the efforts of the former Manchester United man.

Though the Swiss football administrator praised Ronaldo as a “commander” on the pitch, these comments have done little to appease Real Madrid’s top scorer with the 28-year-old noting that the quotes showed the “consideration” FIFA has for his abilities.

Despite issuing an apology in the wake of these responses Blatter’s views are likely to fire up the forward ahead of their crunch La Liga clash with Sevilla.

Los Merengues are in desperate need of a win over the Andalusian club after losing the first of this season’s El Clasico meetings with Barcelona – a result that left them four points adrift of the Catalans.

Ronaldo will be desperate to grab the spotlight though, making odds of 4/1 on the forward scoring a hat-trick worth a look when you consider that CR7 has scored 10 goals in his last five games against Sevilla, with three or more registered on two of these occasions.
