Arc draw and ground playing into hooves of Ruler Of The World
Published:Not many races are as reliant on the draw as the Prix de l’Arc De Triomphe, but history suggests it is worth waiting to find out which horse will break from which stall before any bets are placed.
After all, in the last 11 years, only Dalakhani in 2003 has triumphed in the Arc from a double-figure stall and eight of the last nine renewals have been one by a horse drawn in one of the lowest six stalls.
Digging further, half of the last eight victors have come precisely from stall six, which has to be an obvious positive for Ruler Of The World this time, who has landed this coveted spot.
Ruler Of The World is now 10/1 in the Arc betting and this looks a fine each-way price, especially as he is also expected to appreciate the ground conditions more than most.
Conditions at Longchamp are now described as being ‘soft’ and although heavy rain is not anticipated in the coming days, there remains the prospect of some light showers.
This ground will dent the finishing speed of some of the leading protagonists, chiefly Andre Fabre duo Flintshire and Intello, but should be up the street of Ruler Of The World.
The Epsom Derby winner also arrives relatively fresh with just one run since June, which was a fast-finishing second in the Prix Niel, where he was catching Kizuna in the closing strides.
Fellow Aidan O’Brien entrant Leading Light runs from stall five and is another with each-way appeal at 10/1, given he has proven stamina and could be allowed to dictate from the front.
Interestingly, many of the favourites in the Arc betting are drawn outside of Ruler Of The World, meaning there may be some value among the outsiders.
Solemia prevailed at 33/1 last year in the Arc, while Danedream was a 20/1 success story 12 months previous to that.
Very Nice Name doesn’t like the ground too quick, often stays on well in the latter stages and has previous for filling the frame at a big price. He could be one to consider at 66/1 from stall one.
