Weakened Paris Saint Germain to bottle it against Bordeaux

Published:

Bordeaux host a PSG side that will be considerably weakened after a week of internationals that has seen the core of their squad depart Europe, with many travelling thousands of miles to represent their countries.

The defending champions are set to be without Jeremy Menez (kidney stones) and Javier Pastore (thigh) for the clash at the Stade Chaban-Delmas, but that is just the start of their worries.

Ezequiel Lavezzi is absent from the match squad, presumably after his exertions for Argentina in his homeland earlier in the week.

Edinson Cavani is also a major doubt after returning from South America just two days before this tie and the club’s record signing may only be fit for a place on Les Parisiens bench.

It is not just Laurent Blanc’s attacking options that are seriously hampered.

Both Maxwell and Thiago Silva completed the full 90 for Brazil in midweek and have only taken part in light training since their return, with one of the pair expected to start as a substitute here.

Add to that the elusive Marquinhos, who is still not considered fit to complete a full 90 minutes, and the departure of Mamadou Sakho to Liverpool on deadline day, the home side’s odds off 7/2 look mightily appealing.

The club from the capital are available at 10/11, which although a seemingly long price for a side expected to romp the title, offers no valued to a team hampered by fatigue and absentees.

The lack of depth in the visitors defence will bring Zoumana Camara into the side and the 34-year-old’s ageing legs are likely to be targeted by Les Girondins.

The pace of Henri Saviet and Cheick Diabate will undoubtedly cause the veteran real issues and the pair offer real value at 10/1 and 8/1 respectively to net first.
