Three Man United players who deserve more playing time

Published:

While it’s only natural David Moyes will need to audition many of his stars before settling on his best XI, some players should be afforded more minutes than they’re getting.

Jonny Evans

Manchester United’s Northern Irishman was nominated man-of-the-match by Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher for marshalling the defence to a clean sheet on his full seasonal debut against Liverpool in the League Cup – a competition his side are now favourites to win at 4/1.

While a fit Luis Suarez may have made United pay, it was a reminder to all of just how far Evans has evolved as a top-class centre-back, after making 30 appearances for the champions last season.

It’s difficult to argue against the tried and tested Rio Ferdinand/Nemanja Vidic combination which has served the club so well over the years, though with Rio coming up 35 in November, Evans deserves more than just cup outings.

Shinji Kagawa

‘Free Shinji’ may be a light-hearted campaign, but in all seriousness the Japanese international is being extremely hard done by at Old Trafford.

This is an attacking midfielder who contributed in no small part to Borussia Dortmund securing successive Bundesliga titles before securing a dream move to United.

His smart turn, probing run and dipping shot which rattled the bar against Liverpool displayed just what the fans have been waiting to see.

Wilfried Zaha

Remember this talented trickster who was playing for England against Scotland just over two months ago?

It really defies belief that we have not caught another glimpse of Zaha since he was hauled off after an hour of the Community Shield, considering Moyes was singing his praises so highly after the tour of Asia.

Zaha wasn’t even brought off the bench in the League Cup and now looks to have fallen behind even 18-year-old Adnan Januzaj in the pecking order.
