Sunderland throw Liverpool misfit Borini a Premier League lifeline

Fabio Borini’s Liverpool nightmare is over for now after Paulo Di Canio opted to bring his fellow countryman in on a season-long loan to Sunderland.

After a miserly return of just two goals in as many seasons at the club, Brendan Rodgers has decided enough-is-enough and has agreed to let Borini leave for the Stadium Of Light to see if he can repair his shattered confidence.

Borini has passed a medical on Wearside and will now be eligible to turn out for his new club after the international break.

It’s thought the arrival of Victor Moses on his own season-long loan at Anfield acted as the catalyst for Rodgers to offload his first ever Liverpool signing, who cost £11m in the summer of 2011.

Although the Italian international could point to bad luck with injuries during his short-lived Liverpool career, he still failed to make any real impression when called upon.

The move could also pave the way for troubled front man Stephane Sessegnon to leave Sunderland, with West Brom keen on a move.

Another striker who seems almost certain to make a deadline day move is Chelsea’s Demba Ba, who like Borini has failed to live up to expectations at Stamford Bridge.

The former Newcastle player is now evens with Ladbrokes to make a switch back to St James’ Park, either on loan or as a permanent deal, with Arsenal and Roma reportedly on alert.
