Southampton to keep up winning record against Holloway’s Eagles

Mauricio Pochettino’s Southampton side, fresh from their surprise victory at Liverpool last weekend, host Ian Holloway’s Crystal Palace who have lost four of their first five league games, and have the unenviable record of losing all three of their matches in all competitions on the road.

In fact Palace have won only one of their ten league visits to the South Coast, the pressure of finding an all important, yet elusive, away victory could be heightened by their current standing in the Premier League table.

Sitting second bottom with just one win so far, Ian Holloway’s policy of squad rotation could be a key factor in his side’s current position – having used a joint-high total of 23 players in this season’s matches. As a result, Palace are priced at a massive 6/1, with Southampton as short as 1/2 to take all three points.

Without their talisman Glenn Murray, still sidelined with the knee injury sustained in the club’s play off semi-final against Brighton, Holloway has struggled to find a striker to fill the temporary void left by last season’s top scorer.

In Marouane Chamakh, the South Londoners have a man who should be capable of hitting the net on a regular basis. However, having recorded just nine goals in 47 appearances for English clubs since his move from Bordeaux, the Moroccan International has flattered to deceive. With this in mind, Chamakh is currently priced at 8/1 to open the scoring and 5/2 to net any time in the 90 minutes.

Similarly, Southampton have hit a measly three goals this term, but in Rickie Lambert boast a threat who looks a safe bet to increase their goal tally on Saturday. At 4/1 to score first and Evens to score anytime, Lambert’s selection to score should seriously be considered.
