Patrick Robinson won’t be a ‘Casualty’ on Strictly Come Dancing
While female viewers may swoon over the eye candy offered by Hollyoaks star Ashley Taylor-Dawson and rugby hero Ben Cohen, Casualty’s Patrick Robinson should be the one everyone is drooling over given the odds available.
The London-born thespian may only play a locum consultant on television but backing him to be the best male at 9/1 in this year’s competition could be seriously good for your health.
After all, with stories emerging that Cohen, the 11/4 second favourite, has had trouble walking, let alone dancing during practice sessions with his partner, Robinson could be in the frame for the big prize.
He’s likely to prove a more popular choice among most fans than Taylor-Dawson, favourite at 4/6, with the 49-year-old’s long-awaited return to Casualty earlier this year, following a 17-year absence, providing the Saturday night show with a welcome boost.
By contrast, the past few years have seen Hollyoaks slip to record low viewing figures, leaving many Strictly viewers scratching their heads wondering what exactly the 31-year-old is famous for.
And aside from that, Robinson arrives with quite the dancing pedigree having been classically trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art before gaining work with the Royal Shakespeare Company.
The Casualty star has been keen to play down his chances too, though his confidence was still clear for all to see during a recent Radio Times interview.
“When I was very young I would say my dancing skills were like a 7 or 8.5, not bad – I could try my hand at everything,” he told the magazine.
“Now you are looking at a 4 or 5, so if I get anything above a 6 I will be very chuffed.”
Since then, Robinson appears to have been taking his training very seriously, even taking a leaf out of the book of his former co-star Steven Seagal.
The pair featured together in the 2003 action film Belly of the Beast, and while exercise has been key to his preparations, he’s also exploring his spiritual side ahead of the competition much like the Hollywood star.
“The only extra stuff I have done, other than my usual work out and bike rides is some more stretching, flexibility exercises. I have done a little bit of yoga,” he said.
Yoga Patrick? We think yoga-na be the star of the show in Strictly this year.
