Moyes’ record against Man City gives United an edge

David Moyes arrived at Manchester United with a poor record away at several of the other top sides in the Premier League from his time at Everton, but Manchester City were certainly not one of them.

The Scot will have little fear about taking his United team to the Etihad, where they are 9/4 to win in the Manchester derby, as it proved a happy hunting ground when he was in charge of the Toffees.

Under Moyes Everton won four and drew one of their past six trips to play City, and his overall record is even more impressive, with nine wins in 12 matches.

Clearly there will be a different atmosphere when he takes United to the Etihad, with local bragging rights and an early boost in the title race up for grabs, but few could argue that Moyes knows how to set up a side against City.

Last season Everton won 2-0 at home despite being down to 10 men for the final half an hour, and drew 1-1 at the Etihad, where Manchester United’s new recruit Marouane Fellaini opened the scoring.

Fellaini can be backed at 9/2 to score any time, although a better bet at 5/2 is the in-form Wayne Rooney, who scored twice against Leverkusen in the Champions League, and has four goals in his past three trips to the Etihad in all competitions.

With both teams on seven points in the league so far, they will be keen to make an early statement in the title race.

However, after being handed a nightmare set of fixtures, especially compared to City’s relatively easy start, United would be pleased enough to emerge still level with their neighbours after five games.
