Manchester Utd could let promising striker go on loan to Brum

He’s meant to be very highly-rated by David Moyes, but with Birmingham keen to take him on loan, it seems there may not be a place for the emerging talent of Jesse Lingard at Old Trafford this season.

Tails are firmly up again at Manchester United following a flying start to their Champions League campaign, though one of the club’s brightest talents may be about to leave by the side-door, if only temporarily.

Selected by Moyes to go on United’s pre-season tour of Asia, the Scot’s faith in Lingard was immediately repaid with the first goal of his tenure against an A-League All Stars side.

In the absence of big-hitters Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie, Lingard went on to play a starring role on the tour, notching three more times for the Red Devils and could easily have expected to have played his way into Moyes’ first-team plans.

However, Rooney’s decision to stay has effectively ended the 20-year-old’s chance of elevation into the first-team squad, with Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck also ahead of him in the striker pecking order.

Still, it may well be in his and the club’s best interest to gain some first team action in the Championship to develop his game and Birmingham are a club who are certainly in need of a lift.

The Blues have started the season in disarray, having gained just four points from their opening seven league games, to leave them teetering just above the red zone ahead of their next fixture at home to Sheffield Wednesday – where they’re priced at 11/10 for the win.

After failing to score in four of the seven defeats manager Lee Clark has clearly identified the young United striker as a possible remedy for their woes in front of goal.
