Laudrup must trust Bony and Michu to lead the line

It was another busy summer in the transfer market for Michael Laudrup’s Swansea City, and despite a shaky start to the Premier League season they are well set to impress once again.

The Swans are 5/4 to finish in the top half of the table, and 14/1 in the divisional handicap betting.

Key to their chances will be the make-up of their attack, with last season’s sensation Michu likely to be partnered by one of new signings Wilfried Bony and Alvaro Vazquez.

Despite splashing out a club record £12m on Bony this summer, Laudrup has been loath to start the Ivorian in the Premier Leaguer so far.

Bony netted 31 times for Vitesse Arnhem in the Eredivisie last season, and is 50/1 to be a surprise top scorer in the Premier League, with Michu priced at 66/1.

Against Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur Michu began the game as a lone forward, with Bony brought on to try and influence the match once Swansea were already behind.

The Ivorian did grab a consolation goal in the 4-1 loss to Manchester United at the Liberty, but moving forward he should be starting matches, with Michu playing just behind him.

Laudrup has used the pair in tandem from the start four times this season, winning three matches as a result.

Bony scored twice and Michu once in the 4-0 win over Malmo in Europa League qualifying, and both were on target again in the 5-1 win over Petrolul Ploiesti.

The pair started in the 2-0 win over West Brom in Swansea’s last match, and it could be that Laudrup had always planned to use them both once the tricky fixtures against Manchester United and Spurs were out of the way.

Vazquez has arrived on a season-long loan from Getafe with the view to buy. The 22-year-old was part of the Spain U21 squad that won the European Championship in Israel over the summer, and will be able to act as back-up to both Michu and Bony.
