Impressive Rizeena shows potential for Guineas glory

Published:

Rizeena is 8/1 to win the next 1,000 Guineas renewal following a strong finish to beat both Tapestry and Kiyoshi in the Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh.

That score further showcased the two-year-old’s ability after an impressive success in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot, with the highly-rated juvenile now claiming four wins from seven career starts in total.

And despite being third favourite behind Kiyoshi and Tapestry it was the Clive Brittain-trained filly who came on strongest of the three as the former of those two rivals impeded the rest.

That victory has reignited Brittain’s passion for claiming another Guineas crown, having taken Sayyedati to glory in the mile-long event 20 years ago.

He told the Racing Post: “I’ve said for some time that the filly (Rizeena) is in the same class as Sayyedati.”

James Doyle guided Rizeena to the win, and was confident she can prove competitive in the Guineas next spring:

Speaking to the Racing Post, Doyle said: “I ended up getting shuffled back a bit further than I wanted to be but she’s a good filly with a good turn of foot.

“A mile in the 1,000 Guineas will not be a problem for her.”

Despite suffering his first loss, Tapestry remains the favourite at 6/1 for victory at Newmarket with two previous victories making a big impression.

The AP O’Brien-trained two-year-old crossed the line third, but was awarded second after an enquiry over interference from Jamie Spencer aboard Kiyoshi.

Given that performance, the Charlie Hills-trained filly is also sure to attract attention for Classic success with odds of 8/1 about his chances currently being offered by Ladbrokes.

For now though all the talk is of Rizeena following her latest victory against her rivals for Guineas glory and many race fans will be eager to see further evidence of her enhanced claims.
