Hull v Cardiff: Bluebirds can nick this tale of two Cities

Published:

Picking up points from your fellow promoted teams is always seen as a key element of success upon elevation to the Premier League.

Both Hull City and Cardiff City have been handed an early chance to do just that on Saturday afternoon, but for both the fixture is bound to come with some trepidation.

Whilst many would interpret such a meeting between two of the top flight’s new boys as being fairly even, there has in fact just been one winner in the six meetings between newly-promoted clubs in each of the last two Premier League seasons.

That ratio suggests that we could be seeing a team claim the three points at the KC Stadium on Saturday afternoon, but separating Hull and Cardiff in the first meeting of elevated sides this term is somewhat of a tricky challenge.

The Bluebirds – who are 11/5 to win here – have been the more impressive of the pair so far by virtue of their extra point and a victory over Manchester City, whilst they have also been marginally more active in front of goal, registering 20 shots compared to Hull’s divisional worst record of 16.

Steve Bruce’s 13/10 Tigers won their solitary home game by beating Norwich 1-0 last time out, and a similarly tight game can be expected here.

Cardiff edged the Championship meetings between the pair last season thanks to a 2-1 victory in the Welsh capital, with Malky Mackay’s men managing to find the net in the final 10 minutes of both fixtures with their forthcoming opponents.

They are 11/1 to score their first away goal of the season in the final 10 minutes of this fixture, with the 9/1 on offer for a 1-0 Cardiff victory another price which warrants attention.
