Giroud now the clear value pick to be Premier League top scorer

Olivier Giroud was previously highlighted at 40/1 to end the campaign as the Premier League’s top scorer despite contributing six pre-season goals in only 67 minutes of action and although this price has now shrunk to 14/1, there is still value to be had on the Frenchman.

There may have been some reluctance to take this 40/1 based on the fact that Arsenal were expected to sign another high-profile striker before the closing of the transfer window, which would have in theory been a big detriment to Giroud’s game time.

The only striker that did eventually arrive was French youngster Yaya Sanogo, with the big money being spent instead strengthening their supply line with Mesut Ozil.

Ozil has assisted 72 goals in the last five seasons, which is more than any other player in Europe’s big five leagues, while Cazorla completed more successful passes in the final third of the pitch than any other player in the Premier League in the last campaign by some margin.

Throw in the speed of Theo Walcott and the greater likelihood that he will be found running in behind defenders and then Giroud can score a bucket load.

Giroud has already scored in each of Arsenal’s first three Premier League games and it is amazing that he is still as big as 14/1.

This is especially true given that Daniel Sturridge is 9/1 for accomplishing the same feat, even though arguably the creativity behind him is not quite up to the level that Arsenal can boast, while he is not as guaranteed to start regularly with Luis Suarez in the squad.

It is Robin van Persie that is significantly shorter than anybody else at 5/2 to top the Premier League scoring charts for the third consecutive campaign.
