French TV suggesting Mata may leave Chelsea for Ligue 1 club

Published:

If Juan Mata was going to leave Chelsea in this transfer window, it was mainly speculated that he would be trekking across London to Arsenal, but the latest is that he may be jumping on the Eurotunnel to France.

It is now just 11/8 that Mata joins PSG before the closing of the window and reports from France TV station Infosport Plus suggest that the Spaniard is holding talks with the Ligue 1 champions.

Mata is looking far from a certain starter for Chelsea this season and is seemingly at least below Oscar and Eden Hazard in Jose Mourinho’s pecking order. The signing of Willian will not help his cause either.

However, with Javier Pastore enduring somewhat of a crisis at PSG, there seems a ready-made first-team spot for Mata to walk into under Laurent Blanc, at the attacking central pivot of a 4-3-3 formation.

And with PSG not short on the financial front, they are likely to meet whatever Chelsea’s transfer demands are.

Mata has contributed 25 Premier League assists since joining Chelsea and this sort of ammunition would be greatly appreciated by the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Edinson Cavani and Ezequiel Lavezzi.

Alternatively, it is now just 4/6 that Mata survives deadline-day at Chelsea.
