Fellaini on the move – always looked Man Utd’s last resort

Published:

If Manchester United really wanted to sign Marouane Fellaini it is a bit of business that should have been conducted ages ago.

Firstly, this would have resulted in them paying less for his services given they could have taken advantage of a release fee and secondly he would have bedded in with the squad much earlier.

But the feeling is that David Moyes knew what he was getting with Fellaini and thought that there were alternate options on the market that would have perhaps had a bigger bearing on his squad.

However, Cesc Fabregas and Thiago Alcantara are just two to have fallen by the wayside and we have now arrived at deadline day without a new midfielder having arrived.

Therefore, Moyes has left it to the last moment to sign Fellaini and he is reported to have departed speedily from the Everton training ground.

The fact that he had been given special dispensation to arrive late to Belgium’s latest international squad was an early sign that things were going to go to the wire.

Fellaini remains at 1/4 to join Man Utd before the closing of the transfer window and it will be unlikely if this deal wasn’t now completed, especially given additional speculation that he has handed in a late transfer request.
