Broxbourne can tame Tiger Cliff in wide-open Cesarewitch

Today’s Cesarewitch Trial at Newmarket will give prudent backers an insight into what may unfold at the showpiece itself on October 12th.
The Mark Johnston-trained Broxbourne has been in impressive form of late and is 3-5 since returning from a three month lay-off and appears to be peaking at the perfect time.
The Joe Fanning-saddled horse is set to go off as the 5/1 favourite in the Trial and if she performs well once again there is little chance of his 14/1 ante-post price hanging around for the real event.
The filly has seven handicap successes to her name in 2013, with victories coming at both 2m5f and 2m, meaning the distance of 2m2f should hold no troubles for her here.
Progress stalled last time out, with a sixth-placed finish but she should make a welcome return to the impressive form she has already shown and have far too much for the rest.
Victory over course and distance and against potential contenders, is sure to see suitors swell and it may prove foolish to hesitate as her 14/1 price tumbles in the build-up to the race over the coming weeks.
The absence of Countrywide Flame and Well Sharp, who were removed from the second leg of the autumn double, can only strengthen the Irish hopeful’s chances.
The Ebor winner Tiger Cliff, currently at 7/1, is likely to remain at the top of the betting, having never finished outside the top three in her seven starts.
The Lady Cecil-trained four-year-old has won at Newmarket before, with a victory over 2m which will doubtless stand her in good stead.
She has only been over 2m on one occasion, when she was a beaten second by more than two lengths at Ascot and Broxbourne’s staying power could cause a horse with real class a great amount of problems.
