Brazil considered a world apart in the greatest pageant of all
Published:The 63rd edition of the Miss World pageant comes to Bali, Indonesia and the market has decided the prize could be heading to South America with Miss Brazil the clear 3/1 favourite.
Sancler Frantz bids to become the second winner from the nation and having made the top 11 in the Beach Fashion category the Brazilian beauty is clearly no stranger to the rigours of competition at the highest level.
Yu Wenxia of China PR scooped the prize last year and it’s 14/1 that she crowns her countrywoman Wei Wei Yu as her successor. A victory for Yu would see the third woman from the nation to capture the prize in the last seven years and would become the first country to win in successive years since India did the double in 1999/2000.
For a competition that was created in the UK all the way back in 1951, the country responsible for its birth has not tasted success since 1983 and at odds of 33/1 it’s not expected that Miss England is going to buck that trend this year.
Venezuela has won the competition more times than any other, with six wins including two years ago when Ivian Sarcos defeated all before her to take the glory. It looks as if the South American nation will have to wait until next year at least to add to their tally though as a seventh win has been dismissed as a 25/1 chance.
India boast the most success behind Venezuela and their entry is part of a gaggle of four women chalked up as 14/1 co-third favourites.
The Grand National of Aesthetics is destined to be a close-run affair where politics and background stories could weigh as heavy with the judges as faces and twirls.
