Blackpool to get back to winning ways against Huddersfield

The John Smith’s stadium plays host to two teams who have had considerably different starts to the Championship season, with Paul Ince’s high flying Blackpool side in pole position to record their sixth victory of the campaign.

Traditionally, matches between these two sides are close affairs, with no more than two goals separating the teams dating back to 2004, where Blackpool romped to a 6-3 victory at Bloomfield Road in the then named LDV Vans Trophy.

This season, however, the Fylde Coast side have been something of a consistent force in front of goal, with the manager’s son Tom Ince leading the way with five strikes already, and having recorded a goal in all but one match this term they boast an astonishing record of having opened the scoring in each of their eight Championship fixtures so far this season. At 5/1 second favourite to kick off the goal scoring tonight, Ince junior looks good value.

However, the Tangerines should be wary of Huddersfield’s threat, particularly at home where they have achieved all three of their wins this season. Town recorded a comfortable 3-1 victory at Bloomfield Road almost exactly a year ago to the day, and should they repeat that feat this time on home soil on Friday night, they would not only sky rocket up the Championship table into the top six, but would also stretch their unbeaten home record to an eighth successive game.

Added to this, 80 per cent of Huddersfield’s goals have been scored in front of their home fans, and with the league’s top scorer James Vaughan among their ranks, Mark Robins’ team should not be underestimated by any stretch of the imagination. The Terriers can be found at 7/5 to extend their visitors recent woe to a third winless game, but the 2/1 on offer for Blackpool looks too good to turn down.
