Arsenal, Swansea and Stoke to travel well in League Cup treble

Published:

Away is the new home for Premier League leaders Arsenal, who will look to keep their imperious run on the road going at West Brom, while fellow top-flight outfits Swansea and Stoke can also triumph against lesser opposition in the Capital One Cup.

Swansea to win at Birmingham @ 5/6

Holders Swansea will not be wishing to relinquish their trophy as early as the third round, and not against opposition from the Championship.

Three straight wins on the road to nil, including an epic 3-0 Europa League triumph over Valencia, suggests Michael Laudrup’s fluent side have also added a steeliness to their game to match their passing.

Despite the four-goal impetus Manchester United loanee Jesse Lingard provided to struggling Birmingham in their last match, the visitors’ superior quality should see them safely through.

Stoke to win at Tranmere @ 4/6

Anyone who watched Stoke’s continued evolution under Mark Hughes at the Emirates, will have noted that they were more than a match for Arsenal for large parts of the game.

Only some uncharacteristically loose marking at set pieces proved the Potters’ undoing, but against a side two leagues below, new-look Stoke should easily out-play Rovers.

Furthermore, Tranmere have now lost three of their last four games, including a home defeat to League Two Fleetwood in the JP Trophy, and have only won two of their 11 matches in all competitions this term.

Arsenal to win at West Brom @ 21/20

The Gunners’ incredible run on the road looks unlikely to be halted at the Hawthorns.

Arsene Wenger’s side are now searching for their 11th consecutive victory on their travels in all competitions, a streak which stretches back to a 2-0 win at the home of European champions Bayern Munich in mid-March.

The Baggies may have broken their home Premier League duck with a win over hapless Sunderland, but current leaders Arsenal are undefeated in five trips to the west Midlands, winning four of those games, including the last two.
