West Brom answer Vydra’s call for Premier League move

After netting 22 times in 44 games on loan at Watford last season, Udinese striker Matej Vydra was expected to be hot property in the transfer market this summer.

And although a number of clubs had been linked with the Czech international over the past few weeks, the 21-year-old admitted to Czech journalists only yesterday that he was yet to receive a single concrete offer from any club.

And though it is not known whether his well-documented plea for a return to England was spotted by West Brom manager Steve Clarke, or whether the timing is pure coincidence, it seems Vydra is about to finally get his wish as local Birmingham press are reporting that he is a successful medical away from becoming a Baggie.

Despite his impressive scoring record last season, Udinese are happy to let him go, with his appearances for the Bianconeri restricted to just a four-minute cameo from the bench in Thursday’s Europa League Qualifier, when he still managed to net in a 4-0 win.

Nonetheless he is not expected to dislodge Udinese legend Antonio Di Natale and Colombian wiz kid Luis Muriel any time soon, hence his desire to move on.

Whether Udinese will sanction a permanent departure, or simply allow him to move out on loan again, is not clear.

But with Romelu Lukaku now back at Chelsea, Clarke is keen to further bolster his strikeforce despite having already brought in Nicolas Anelka, and wouldn’t be opposed to bringing in another loan signing.

Despite reported interest from Swansea, Sunderland and West Ham, it appears that Clarke and West Brom will be the club to take the punt and secure the signature of the man voted Championship Player of the Year last season.
