Two big outsiders to rival Hart for top fantasy football keeper

Published:

Given that Joe Hart was the top point-scoring goalkeeper in the Premier League fantasy football game last season and has regularly kept a vast number of clean sheets across the last three campaigns, it is understandable as to why he is the favourite to accrue the most points again of the division’s shot stoppers.

However, an odds-on price of 10/11 to be the top point-scoring goalkeeper does look on the tight side.

It is true that Hart has kept 18, 17 and 18 clean sheets in the last three seasons, but Manuel Pellegrini is not as cautious as Roberto Mancini in terms of match-day tactics and team selections could mean that Man City will concede a few more.

Second in the betting is Chelsea’s Petr Cech at 2/1
and there is every possibility that Chelsea will better their clean sheet tally of 14 from last season now that Jose Mourinho is back at the helm.

Only Man City shut out the opposition more than Liverpool last season and this could suggest that 12/1 is a big price on new goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, but the two to back at current odds appear to be Michel Vorm and Artur Boruc.

Asmir Begovic and Jussi Jaaskalainen chased Hart in the points standings last season despite playing for clubs which finished outside of the top eight and a shake-up to the bonus point system for this year’s game could additionally support busier goalkeepers.

Vorm was one of the star keepers of the 2011/12 campaign and Swansea have been racking up the clean sheets in their pre-season fixtures to date.

The Swans have conceded just once in nine games and prevented the opposition scoring in each of the last seven. Vorm remains number one if staying fit and is 33/1 to end the season as the top point-scoring goalkeeper.

Meanwhile, at a somewhat laughable 200/1 is Southampton’s Boruc. He played only 20 league games for the Saints last season and achieved 63 points.

Southampton only conceded more than once in one of their last 11 Premier League games last season and the signing of Dejan Lovren will help bolster their defence.

He certainly has more chance in the market than fellow 200/1 options Eldin Jakupovic of Hull, who may not even be first choice, and Julian Speroni of relegation favourites Crystal Palace.
