Time to back QPR to win the title is sooner rather than later

In the 2009/10 season, relegated Newcastle romped to the Championship title when dropping down to the second tier with a squad full of Premier League calibre players and QPR are well capable of replicating that success.

The paint may still be drying on the brand new Championship season, but nonetheless it’s still a fruitful time for punters to make some bold decisions.

As the season wears on prices will naturally fluctuate, though in some instances that changeability simply involves a steady shortening which can seriously hamper profit making.

While Watford (9/2), Blackpool (33/1) and Nottingham Forest (9/1) have gained maximum points from their opening two fixtures, it’s Harry Redknapp’s Hoops that can march to the title this season at 11/2.

The R’s may have got it totally wrong in the unforgiving world of the Premier League last season, but as the Magpies have shown before them, quality can prevail in the Championship.

Now a few months have rolled by and the likes of mercenary Chris Samba have moved on, the air has cleared around Loftus Road and they still have a squad chocked full of stars and a manager who knows exactly what he’s doing.

Several players in Redknapp’s squad could get into plenty of the so-called mid-table clubs in the top flight and should be able to take the Championship by storm.

Having Joe Barton back for a start is like signing a new player and despite his temperament, he has ability way above the majority of midfielders plying their trade in the second tier, while the same applies to striker Andy Johnson, back after a huge lay-off.

Republic of Ireland international Richard Dunne has a wealth of experience at the back alongside the promising Nedum Onuaha, while Jermaine Jenas, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Junior Hoilett would also walk into any midfield in the division.

Another seasoned campaigner in Gary O’Neil brings yet more Premier League experience, while Jermain Defoe could yet arrive to join one of the Championship’s hottest properties of last season, Charlie Austin, and Bobby Zamora up top.

Scott Parker could also be next to join the ranks which would only strengthen the Londoners’ case further.
