Take the 2/5 on Bale joining Real Madrid with deal looking imminent

Published:

The Gareth Bale saga has rumbled on for long enough, but a conclusion finally seems to be on the brink of being reached in terms of a deal between Tottenham and Real Madrid.

The expectation is that Spurs will accept a bid in the region of £93m that also includes left-back Fabio Coentrao and so now seems the time to at long last invest in Bale joining Real Madrid before the closing of the transfer window at 2/5.

Andre Villas-Boas also doesn’t seem to be hanging around when it comes to locating replacements for the Welsh winger, with Belgian international Nacer Chadli already arriving at White Hart Lane and fellow attacking pair Willian and Erik Lamela set to follow.

This would give Spurs a scary amount of midfield options and would probably give them the best midfield squad in the division.

Assuming Villas-Boas plays 4-5-1, which he would pretty much have to, given the shortage of striker options still at his disposal despite the signing of Roberto Soldado, he would have a choice between the following for the five spots.

Sandro, Paulinho, Mousa Dembele, Etienne Capoue, Lewis Holtby, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Chadli, Willian, Lamela, Aaron Lennon and Andros Townsend.

Lamela would add arguably a more direct wing dribbling threat than Aaron Lennon and comprehensively greater goal threat. His ability to cut inside on his left foot and shoot from distance would mimic Bale to a degree.

Willian is another who enjoys a dribble, but does have a more creative eye for a killer pass, which could make him an option in the number 10 role too.

There are a lot of “ifs” in this roundabout, but should it pan out as anticipated, Tottenham must be backed at 12/5 to finish top in the market without the big three of Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United.

A Premier League title bet at 33/1 would not be the worst investment ever either.
