Sheffield United v Notts County: Season unveiling draw imminent

Published:

Sheffield United’s clash with Notts County at Bramall Lane on Friday will not only raise the curtain on the League One football season, but the managerial career of David Weir as well.

The pre-season calendar lived up to its knack of providing misguided information by indicating that United’s Weir has found the transition into a suit pretty easy, with an undefeated record of five wins and three draws from the eight workout games he’s marshalled.

With Notts County, Chris Kiwomya has seen his charges win just three times in seven games but has played altogether harder opposition in Steaua Bucharest, Galatasaray and Rayo Vallecano compared to the veritable walks in the park served up to Weir in the form of Cowdenbeath, Raith Rovers and Alfreton Town.

Whether that leaves the former Sven-Goran Eriksson employers better prepared for their opening encounter remains to be seen but their 3/1 price to win the match suggests they still have plenty of work to do.

Their underdog status lies mainly in their failure to overcome the Blades in seven consecutive meetings with them, a record that makes Sheffield United 10/11 shots for victory.

But with no meaningful recent form to help guide the betting light a far more certain plunge to take is into the comfortable temperatures of the both teams to score waters.

In 13 straight games between these two, stretching all the way back to 1988, a bet on this particular market would have copped. 17/20 should be snapped up right away on the feat repeating itself on Friday night.

With that stat in mind and with neither side particularly keen on an opening day loss a punt on the correct score being 1-1 at a price of 11/2 could well be another money maker for League One punters.
