Rogers Cup: Mikhail Youzhny headlines first round acca

Mikhail Youzhny has won last his four meetings with Jurgen Melzer – the last of which was their sole meeting on hard courts – and comes to Montreal in good form having won the Swiss Open in Gstaad in his last outing.
The Russian has now won 15 of his last 19 matches, and has a 25-16 record this year, while Melzer has a losing 17-19 record, and could be rusty having played just one match since Wimbledon.
Simon to beat Davydenko @ 8/15
Gilles Simon has won four of his five hard court clashes with Nikolay Davydenko, including both of their outdoor encounters.
The Russian veteran is in a poor run of form, losing eight of 11 – and has failed to take a set in his last three matches. Far from the force of old, he may struggle to reverse his current plight against Frenchman Simon, who is 29-18 on all surfaces this year.
Baghdatis to beat Fognini @ 5/6
Fabio Fognini has been in the form of his life of late, taking a pair of titles in July, though away from the clay he looks hugely vulnerable. In Marcos Baghdatis he faces a hard court specialist.
The Cypriot took their sole meeting on hard courts 6-2 6-2 last year, and has an 8-5 record on that surface in 2013.
Baghdatis’ 11-14 overall record shows that he has not had the best of seasons, however he got a couple of good wins – before losing to eventual winner John Isner – on Washington’s hard courts in July.
Italian Fognini has not played on hard courts since April, and has an uninspiring 3-5 record on the surface this season.
Anderson to beat Dolgopolov @ 2/5
Alexander Dolgopolov has lost his last three matches, failing to take a set in any of them – his last victory came in the second round at Wimbledon.
Kevin Anderson is in good form having won seven of his 10 hard court matches since the grass court season; he now has a 21-8 record on the surface in 2013, notable results including reaching the final in Atlanta, where he lost to John Isner on a third set tie-break, and another final appearance in Sydney. Dolgopolov by contrast is just 2-6 on outdoor hard courts this year.
