PSV to shock undercooked AC Milan in Champions League
Published:Given their injury problems, AC Milan will have been grateful that the Serie A season is yet to start, but their lack of competitive football will see them struggle at PSV.
The Dutch side have already played, and won, five competitive matches, scoring 16 times in the process, and are 7/4 to continue their winning streak against Milan, who can be backed at 8/5.
Although none of the teams they have beaten have the quality of Milan, the Italian side have struggled with injuries in pre-season, and could arrive half-baked in Eindhoven.
Mario Balotelli and Philippe Mexes are both still recovering from injuries, but are likely to start against PSV anyway due to a lack of other options.
The former Manchester City striker is set to make his debut for Milan in the Champions League, and can be backed at 5/1 in the first goalscorer market.
PSV have scored eight and conceded none in their past two home matches, beating NEC 5-0 and Go Ahead Eagles 3-0 in the Eredivisie. In the previous round of qualification they beat Belgian side Zulte-Waregem 5-0 on aggregate.
Milan have not played PSV since the 2005-06 season, when they lost 1-0 at the Philips Stadion in the group stages of the Champions League.
The Italian side also lost 3-1 at PSV in the semi-finals the previous season, but their late away goal put them into the final, where they famously lost to Liverpool on penalties.
PSV lost several important players over the summer, including Kevin Strootman to Roma, but have shown no ill-effects at the start of the new campaign.
They should be backed to beat Milan in the first leg of their Champions League tie, and although they could easily come unstuck at the San Siro, their price of 11/5 to qualify for the group stages is also tempting.
