Norwich v Southampton: Draw and goal fest on the cards

Published:

With the likes of Johan Elmander and Ricky Van Wolfswinkel joining the Canaries ranks, it’s fair to say this could be the kind of tasty encounter usually found in a Delia Smith recipe book.

But while Norwich have added plenty of spice in the attacking third, they are still lacking a few key ingredients in defence and it’s shown so far this season.

In their two fixtures at Carrow Road so far this term, the Norfolk club have shipped a concerning five goals, with three of those strikes coming against League Two opposition Bury in the League Cup.

Prior to that, Norwich were held to a 2-2 draw by Everton and there is little reason to suggest that visitors Southampton can’t do the very same.

The goals have certainly flowed at Carrow Road in recent times, with three or more combined goals seen in each of the Canaries’ last six competitive home matches.

Norwich are available at 13/8 for the win, but given the defensive frailties on show so far this term, backing a draw with over 2.5 goals scored at 9/1 could have you licking your lips.

A straight up stalemate is priced at 23/10 and given that these two sides have shared the spoils on their last two meetings it’s a fair shout but with both teams bolstering their attacking options, goals are expected.

The Saints added to their forward line with the record-signing of Pablo Osvaldo earlier this month and while the former Roma man endured a tumultuous debut against Sunderland, he could be one to look out for here as the south coast club go in search of a win, which is available at 8/5.

Osvaldo scored 16 goals in 29 appearances in Serie A last term and this could be the perfect place for the Argentina-born striker to open his account for Southampton with the 27-year-old available at 11/2 to open the scoring and 7/4 to get a goal at anytime.

Norwich, meanwhile, will look to new boy Van Wolfswinkel to add to his tally, having already opened his account at Carrow Road.

The Dutchman is similarly priced at 11/2 as the first goalscorer and 7/4 to score any time though and with both players likely to be raring to go odds of 7/10 on both sides scoring looks a banker.
