Murray money back means backing Nadal makes even more sense

Rafa Nadal’s impressive hard court form has come just in time for the final Slam of the year and the 5/2 shot is sure to be the man drawing attention ahead of the Flushing Meadows showpiece.

Backing the Spaniard makes even more sense with Ladbrokes offering customers money back should British hope and Wimbledon champion Andy Murray retain the title he won in 2012.

The 27-year-old’s victory in Cincinnati saw him leapfrog the Scot in the world rankings, meaning he is now second only to Djokovic.

Nadal has previous in this tournament beating Djokovic in the 2010 final to lift the crown, before returning the following year to be edged out in the final by the Serbian.

That runner-up finish was Nadal’s last appearance at the American Grand Slam after injury kept him away last year.

He enters 2013’s event in the hard court form of his life, having not lost on the surface all year, racking up 15 wins in the process.

Those victories have brought with them three titles and successes over the likes of Djokovic, Juan Martin Del Potro, Tomas Berdych and Roger Federer with only Andy Murray escaping the rampant Pearl of Manacor’s wrath.

Apart from his shock defeat to Steve Darcis at Wimbledon, when he was clearly struggling with injury, Nadal’s last loss came back in April.

His incredible return in 2013 has seen him win no fewer than nine tournaments, including an unprecedented eighth French Open.

However, those looking for a longer price should turn to Del Potro.

The Argentine has a tournament victory on the hard this season and has also appeared in a final, only to be defeated by the in-from Nadal.

The world number six won his only Slam here back in 2009 and has shown a return to the form that saw him reach those heights, making the 8/1 about a second title an interesting proposition.
