Loan deal suggests Baines to Man Utd transfer imminent

Leighton Baines is not the only left-back to be linked with Manchester United this season, but the possibility of the Everton defender re-joining David Moyes at Old Trafford has been given a serious boost by developments involving Alexander Buttner.

Buttner was Patrice Evra’s only real understudy in the full-back role, although Fabio, Phil Jones or Ryan Giggs could arguably play there temporarily, but he has agreed to a loan switch to Turkish club Besiktas.

The common domino effect of transfers hints that the Red Devils must have another left-back that will sign imminently and so now could be the time to take the 8/13 that Baines signs for Man Utd before the transfer window closes.

All approaches for Baines so far have seemingly also involved fellow Everton star Marouane Fellaini and the latest was that a £36m offer for the pair was rejected, which was an improvement on an initial £28m bid.

The big problem for Everton now is whether there is enough of the transfer window left to replace one or both of their most prized assets.

Many fans will debate whether Man Utd really require Baines, but on the plus side is that he is four years younger than Evra, possesses a far better delivery from wide areas and already knows how to perform ideally in the manager’s preferred system.

The alternate options for Moyes includes Fabio Coentrao, although it would be slightly harsh on Tottenham if they lost out on another of their transfer targets at a late stage having witnessed Willian turn down White Hart Lane for Chelsea.

Meanwhile, Luke Shaw would be the best long-term option and would debatably be ready to dethrone Evra either at the end of this season or in the next 18 months.
