Falcao to beat PSG pair to be Ligue 1 top scorer

Published:

Despite scoring twice in two games, Radamel Falcao has been somewhat overshadowed at Monaco by Emmanuel Riviere’s blistering start to the campaign.

With four goals, Riviere has shot to the top of the Ligue 1 scoring charts, but it is Falcao who will finish the year in that position, and the Colombian should be backed at 7/4.

The main competition will be from PSG duo Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani, who both finished as top scorer in their respective divisions last season.

Ibrahimovic scored 30 in his debut season in Ligue 1, while Cavani was the Serie A top scorer with 29.

The Swede is 3/1 to retain his title, while Cavani is 7/2, but the pair’s battle for supremacy at PSG will see both score fewer than Falcao, who is the undisputed star at Monaco despite their mammoth summer spending spree.

Monaco are also unencumbered by European competition, meaning their main focus will be on Ligue 1, with Falcao unlikely to be rotated.

The Colombian’s credentials are well known. Falcao scored 70 goals in 90 appearances in two seasons at Atletico Madrid, following the 72 in 87 games he managed at Porto.

Ibrahimovic proved last season that strikers can settle quickly in Ligue 1 and be top scorer in their first season in the division.

Outside bets worth considering include Alexandre Lacazette at 33/1, with the Lyon striker already bagging three goals in the league and well supplied by Yoann Gourcuff and Clement Grenier.

At 16/1, Dario Cvitanich is also a good bet, having scored 19 times last season to finish joint second with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the rankings. The Argentine has one in one so far this term.

Also at 16/1 is Andre-Pierre Gignac, who has the league’s top two assist providers from last season behind him in Mathieu Valbuena and Dimitri Payet.
