Charlton to beat Middlesbrough @ 6/5

Few teams on a global scale, ranging from the most useless of five-a-side set ups to the swankiest of professional outfits, have been as bad as Boro have in 2013. Their showings against Leicester and Accrington Stanley testify that the demons that haunted them from January until the end of last season weren’t exercised during the summer break.

For Charlton to be odds-against to beat them at The Valley, frankly, seems too good to be true and this opportunity should not be passed up. The Addicks prevailed in each of their last four home games to close the previous season, scoring 11 goals in that time and they’re certain to give Tony Mowbray more headaches here.

Ipswich to beat Millwall @ 11/10

The Tractor Boys can consider themselves unfortunate to have been defeated at Reading last weekend, but they can put that right against their London-based foes.

In contrasting fashion to Ipswich, who were expected to lose last weekend, Millwall were felled by newly-promoted Yeovil at the Den and Mick McCarthy’s better-settled side are likely to take advantage of the gelling Lions.

They’ve also triumphed over Millwall in three of their last five meetings with them at Portman Road.

Sheffield Wednesday to beat Burnley @ 5/4

The Owls will be looking to extend their unbeaten home run to five matches when they take on the relegation-tipped Burnley at Hillsborough. Three wins and a draw at the end of last term ensured the Yorkshire club’s survival and, after refereeing mishaps cost them at least a point at QPR in the opening game, expect them to do well here.

Prior to effectively condemning Wolves in their final away game of 2012/13, Burnley lost four from six on the road and it’ll be a big ask for them sink Wednesday, especially without goal-machine Charlie Austin.

Nottingham Forest to beat Blackburn @ 7/4

In what is most definitely the most daring of our four selections, Forest will get the job done at Blackburn.

Both clubs’ owners have proved they’re not afraid to swing the axe if things aren’t going to plan and Rovers’ coach Gary Bowyer will move nearer to a Venky’s volley when the promotion front-runners gun down his side.

Billy Davies has masterminded two wins from as many matches this season and won five of the eight road games he was in the dug out for at the end of the last.
