Barca can lift Super Cup in a match which promises goals

Published:

Barcelona head into this match priced at 1/7 to claim their fourth Super Cup in five years after Neymar’s 66th minute equaliser handed the Catalan giants a slender away goals advantage in the first leg.

Barca’s £40m marquee summer signing is yet to make the starting 11 but in the potential absence of Lionel Messi could make his full debut for Blaugrana. The much-lauded Brazilian is priced at 5/2 to net first in this fixture and that price will only shorten should Gerardo Martino hand him his first start.

However, Cesc Fabregas was preferred in Messi’s absence as the front man against Malaga, and the former Arsenal captain certainly provides more value at 5/1. Fabregas has featured in all three of Barca’s matches this campaign and it would be a surprise not to see him grace the Nou Camp turf in this fixture.

Neymar’s equaliser came after David Villa returned to haunt his old club with a goal of the highest order. Spain’s all-time top goalscorer started and finished an exemplary move, firing a low volley past Victor Valdez from 18 yards. Villa demonstrated that he retains all the ability of old and 7/1 looks a generous price for the front man to open the scoring.

Atletico will have their work cut out for themselves though and will need to rip up the form book to overcome the Catalans. Prior to the draw in the last leg, Barca had won their last six matches against Atletico scoring an aggregate 20 goals over that period, while Atletico have not recorded a win since February 2010. It comes as no surprise then that Barca are priced at 1/3 to win in 90 minutes.

The Red and Whites are in decent form though, especially going forward, as they demonstrated with a 5-0 victory over Rayo Vallecano last time, and one bet which looks a banker is the both teams to score market at 5/6, as has been the case in the last four fixtures between these two.
