Vettel leading the way in German Grand Prix practice
Published:Red Bull and Sebastian Vettel set the early pace in the second practice session ahead of the German Grand Prix with the championship leader looking a good tip to start on pole.
The 26-year-old finished 0.235 seconds ahead of nearest challenger Nico Rosberg, with Mark Webber ranked as third-fastest for the day.
Available at 5/2 to record the fastest Q3 qualifying time, Vettel has yet to win on home soil but hasn’t had things all his own way so far this weekend.
Going into the second session, the Mercedes duo of Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton had been two fastest drivers, with the German constructor available at 11/8 to be the highest scoring team in Nuremburg.
Rosberg has been in fine form of late, winning two of the last three Grand Prix and he is on at 6/1 to take the chequered flag.
Hamilton, meanwhile, fell away in the second session, recording the eighth fastest time of the day. Despite this, the Brit was just 0.653 second behind his teammate on one-off lap time and remains at 11/8 to record the best Q3 Qualifying time and 10/3 to win the race itself.
Two other former winners are also in contention for top honours with Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso ranked sixth fastest while previous victor Mark Webber was third.
The Red Bull man can be backed at 6/1 to record a first win of the season while the Spaniard is on at 7/1 to get to the top of the podium for a third time this season.
For the time being though, the focus remains on Sebastian Vettel as he goes in search of another race victory to consolidate his lead at the top of the Championship standings.
With the ongoing debate surrounding tyres appearing to take a backseat at this early stage, the German will be hoping that the questionable compounds don’t affect his chances of claiming this much-coveted racing prize.
