Stenson good Open value in line with Ladbrokes’ six-place offer

The British Open is upon us once more and, as ever, Ladbrokes is the only place to go for betting on it.

Two promotions are in place for this year’s event. The first is that, on the back of Justin Rose’s success in the US equivalent recently, if an English player gets his hands on the claret jug at Muirfield, all losing outright punts will be refunded as free bets.

Nick Faldo was the last English victor in the British Open, claiming the third of his three crowns in Europe’s only major on the same course that this year’s instalment will be contested back in 1992.

At 20/1, Rose is the shortest priced English player, though Luke Donald and Lee Westwood aren’t much further back at 25’s.

The latter has finished inside the top three golfers in two of the last four Opens and with eight top-10 finishes across both tours this season so far, he could be in with a shout of success here.

The second promotion is the more exciting of the two in terms of opportunities for profit, with the firm promising to pay six places in the each-way stakes.

With the potential to pick a winner made much broader, golfers with long prices suddenly increase in appeal.
One of these is Sweden’s Henrik Stenson. The current world number 32 has made nine of 11 cuts on the PGA Tour this term and has enjoyed two third places finishes in this tournament too.

More importantly, only two other golfers on the PGA can boast better driving accuracy and a higher tee-to-green percentage and, should he be able to reproduce such standards at Muirfield, his challenge could stand up well against the swirling winds that are certain to scupper so many.

At 40/1, he’s definitely a worthy contender for a top-six finish on the esteemed Scottish course.
