Pedrosa needs 4th German GP win to maintain title grip

With three wins in succession around the Sachsenring, it’s no surprise to see Dani Pedrosa installed as 6/5 favourite for the German Grand Prix this weekend.

Unbeaten here since 2009, the Spaniard leads the championship by nine points from compatriot Jorge Lorenzo with Marc Marquez in third.

Lorenzo stunned the MotoGP paddock last time out at Assen, finishing fifth just days after breaking a collarbone in a practice crash.

The Yamaha rider crossed the line just one place behind Pedrosa, conceding minimal damage in the title race and in turn putting the Honda man under extreme pressure.

Three-times a championship runner up, Pedrosa has never had a better chance to claim the championship, and his hopes have been boosted significantly with Lorenzo ruled out of the German GP after aggravating that collar bone injury in a practice crash.

Pedrosa will be desperate to take full advantage of his rival’s absence, but his challenge for victory will not be without a fight.

Valentino Rossi is pumped up and back to winning ways following his win at Assen two weeks ago, and Cal Crutchlow is edging ever nearer toward an inaugural Grand Prix victory.

A happy and race-challenging Rossi is almost impossible to beat, and the seven-time champion is 7/2 for a second win in succession.

The Yamaha returnee will be eager to take advantage of his rival’s problems and keep alive his slim championship hopes this weekend.

Another man firmly in the mix is rookie Marc Marquez.

The young Spaniard has pushed Honda team-mate Pedrosa closely in almost every race in 2013, and claimed his first MotoGP win just his second race in Texas.

The 20-year-old is 9/5 for a second GP win of the year at a venue where he has won every time in various categories since 2009.
