Mourinho’s previous means back Chelsea to have best home record
Published:Jose Mourinho’s ability to turn a home ground into a fortress is well documented. After all he once went 151 games over nine years without suffering a home defeat, in spells across four clubs.
Home defeats were slightly more frequent at Real Madrid, with three in the last three seasons, but the fact that they went the whole of the last campaign unbeaten offers some promise that the old days may be coming back.
Madrid only dropped four points at home last season and if this tally would have been produced in the Premier League, it would have comfortably been the best in the English top flight.
Manchester United eventually took the honour, despite being beaten three times at Old Trafford.
In Mourinho’s three previous years in charge at Stamford Bridge he was not only unbeaten, but secured the best Premier League home record on two of these occasions.
Although not a truly outstanding price, 11/5 is more than fair that Chelsea have the best Premier League home record this season.
It is Man Utd that head this market at 2/1 following their success last season and the good news for them is that David Moyes racked up the points at Goodison Park with Everton in the previous campaign.
Despite finishing sixth in the overall standings, Everton would have been third if only home form was taken into consideration.
Like Chelsea, Manchester City are also 11/5, but Malaga were not exactly dominant on their own patch under Manuel Pellegrini last season and so this may prove best opposed.
It is hard to justify backing anyone other than the top three in this particular market, given that no other club has topped the home table since Arsenal did so in 2003/04 when winning the Premier League title.
